Dorothy (Dot) Getliffe, Deacon
Before being called to the Diaconate (to be a Deacon) Dot had been a teacher and later Scripture Union Staff worker, in Glasgow. After marriage to David Getliffe, Railway Signaller she became a mother to two daughters and when they were aged 10 and 8, she realised God wanted her out of the house and back into some form of ministry!
After training as a Minister of Word and Sacrament, her first job was as Locum Pastoral Assistant in Wishaw. She then went on to be an Adult and Family Worker full time in the same deprived area of Cambusnethan.
There followed a wonderful time in a ministry team in Shettleston where her job specification was “Development Co-ordinator.”
This challenging post included fundraising, starting two more Carer and Tots Groups, as well as the usual parts of leading Sunday Worship and conducting funerals as required. She loved this job and still enjoys hearing from folks from the east end of Glasgow.
She decided to drop full time ministry work (to look after her family) and took on the part time role of Family Networker in a Fresh Expression of Church and tried to reach new families for whom Church was no longer relevant. This was based in one of the most affluent parts of south Glasgow with meetings in a Rugby club!
She then enjoyed being locum in two more Glasgow charges before joining Mannofield where she has stamped her big personality on the Mannofield church community.
